Generating CSS code in Illustrator

Category : Illustrator

You can easily create the design for an HTML page in Illustrator. This serves as a good visual guide for a web developer, who can then code the layout, styles, and objects into a page in an HTML editor. However, replicating the exact appearance and position of components and objects is a time-consuming and tedious process.
With Illustrator, you create the layout for an HTML page and then also generate and export the underlying CSS code that determines the appearance of the components and objects on the page. CSS allows you to control the appearance of text and objects (similar to character and graphic styles). You can choose to export the CSS code for individual objects or for the entire layout designed in Illustrator.
In the CSS Properties panel , you can do the following:
• View the CSS code for selected objects.
• Copy the CSS code for selected objects.
• Export one or more, or all selected Illustrator elements to a CSS file.
• Export rasterizable images used.
• Generate browser-specific CSS code.

css1

15 Tips on How to become a more Creative Graphic Designer?

Category : Concept

Designing is already a creative art, so if you are a designer, then you already are a creative soul. Now the thing is that sometimes due to time crunch, creativity takes a backseat and inspired designs become the easy way out to satiate the taste buds of customers. Graphic designing is a field where you will find the perfect combination of technology and creativity. So, some of them get stuck in learning the technology deeply. But, if you really want to become one of the best creative graphic designers, then you will have to undergo formal training for that, education is very much important. Without proper knowledge, you won’t be able to enhance your creativity.

c1

What exactly the graphic designer do?
The graphic designer is responsible for coming up with ideas and design for brochures, advertisement as well as marketing materials. They are not the face of the advertisements, instead they work behind the closed doors, in front of their computers and they also have access to the drafting tools. You will find that some graphic designers work on their own as it is a business for them, but then there are few others who work in big firms as part of a team dedicated for graphic designing. Here is a list of work that is generally associated with graphic designing and they are book designing, logos, web designing, typography, advertising, packaging, etc. The main objective of a graphic designer is to convey a message to its customer, so while designing something they must keep this in mind.

Skills required for becoming a graphic designer:
Analytical skills and creativity are the two things that are required in any graphic designer. There are many designers, who feel more comfortable in chalking out the rough sketch on paper, so that they can give an idea about their thought process and once the client finalizes it, they start the final sketch on the computer. This is a common practice amongst many graphic designers. Another important thing in the life of a graphic designer is time management. They have to take care of many tasks at a go, therefore, if they are not good with their time, then they are bound to miss the deadline. Communication is another skill, which helps the graphic designers in their work because they have to communicate with the client about what the client is expecting and whether they are on the right path or not. The work of the graphic designer is to make sure that the creative graphic designing they are creating conveys the emotions and answers all the questions visually. In short, the visual display that they will generate must make an impact on the mind of the customers. The best quality that a graphic designer can possess is the quality of a visual thinker who can effectively and creatively put up all his thoughts on the canvas.

How to become a creative graphic designer?

If you want to be a creative graphic designer, then you will have to acquire the skills for that too, and that can only be achieved when you have proper knowledge about the matter. The techniques in graphic designing is ever changing and in order to keep up with that pace, you will have to continue your knowledge quest.

1. Collect every piece that inspires: No matter where you are, you have to keep your eyes open for inspiration and if there is something which inspires you, then collect it and keep it with you in a file. Make a collection of different things and stack them up in the folder or a box, so that you can access them anytime you want. If, in case, you are running out of ideas, then refer to all these collections of yours and you will see how wonderful and creative ideas you can get out of it. The Internet is one place where you can explore as much as you want and you can save all your inspiration in one place on your system.

2. Blogs are a great source:

c2Now everybody writes a blog and that is definitely a good thing because when you have a graphic designer write a blog about his life and his creativity, then it makes for a very good read, you can get inspirations from there too. A lot can be learnt from their blogs because they have the experience, which can be useful for you.

3. Click photographs: Click some nice pics and save it for later references. Photographs are a good way of exercising the right light, color and composition. If you can get it right, then it will be a huge boost for your creativity. But while using any photograph as your inspiration, remember to respect the copyright issue.

4. Create free sample: When you are trying to enhance your creative skills, then the most important thing that you need is to collate data and work with them to recreate some brands or letterheads, logo, mock website or even business cards. Keep all these designs handy, when you are trying to impress some client, then your creative catalogue will help you gain their confidence. They will know that your action match up to your words.

5. Communicate with other designers: There are events where all the great minds come together, if you can attend one such event, then it will be a great way of enhancing your skill. You can look for people who are highly experienced and talented too.

6. Explore the reality:
c3

As a graphic designer you can get inspired by the movie Avatar, but coming out with such a spectacular thing as a graphic designer is a far off dream. It is not due to the reason that the graphic designers are not creative enough, but actually the problem is, as a graphic designer you won’t be allowed so much budget and the technology that can create such a specter. If you want the audience to look at your creativity too, then you have to pick up a piece of reality and make them wonder, that it was so close yet nobody looked at it the way you have done. This will help you prove your potential as a creative graphic designer.

7. Let the words explain its own meaning: Some graphic designers get into the trap of explaining the words that they get from the client. If you want to explore your creativity, then let the word illustrate itself. You will sometimes see that the film logo describes the genre of the film, so if it is comedy film, then the name of the film will be written in a way, which will give out the comic feeling. So, as a creative graphic designer, if you get a word, then explore the feeling of that and portray it in that way.

8. More can be fun: There is a phrase which says that ‘Less is More’, but you can explore your creativity by incorporating more and more thing in one logo without cluttering it out. It is not easy to work out multiple ideas in one logo and come up with something interesting because in most cases, you will find that it ends up looking like a Christmas Tree.

9. Make the look interesting: The biggest challenge is to make the interesting statement look equally interesting too. It can only be accomplished by a graphic designer who is creative enough to come up with ideas that will match up with the statement.

10. Tutorials come in handy: If you are new or you are exploring new avenues that are not your strong foothold, then tutorials are the best way to learn some new tricks. Work with them to get used to the new methods and continue doing so unless until you are a pro at that. Improvize your skills and the tutorials will help you do that with ease.

11. Redesign other people’s work: If you come across some design which is highly creative, then you can redesign it and see for yourself whether you can outshine the design or not. If you can, then you will be able to figure out where the designer went wrong and it will definitely help you improve your skills.

12. Get a degree:

e

Actually this is the first thing to do, in case you do not possess any formal degree of graphic designing because this will help you understand the subject better. Not only that, you will also get to know about the technologies that are put to use in order to come up with some amazing creative designs.

13. Travelling is another resource: Creativity is enhanced when you travel a lot because, when you move from one country to the other or even moving from one place to another, it will make you witness the cultural changes that are part of the society. Moreover, we all know that cultural changes are a great inspiration, so when you are in a field of high creativity, then travelling will surely help you explore the nuance of each culture and at the end you will gather so much experience that it will have enough fodder to come up with some brilliant creativity.

14. Practices makes a man perfect: Never give up on sketching, you will be able to come up with creative things when you practice a lot on your designs and master the art. When you are confident about what you do, then you will be able to experiment more and more and in a way creativity has a lot to do with experimenting. You have to tread the path that you have never been and see the outcomes. You have to sketch a lot as that will only help you to come up with some concrete ideas.

15. The problem is the solution: Problem and designing goes hand to hand, but the main issue with this is that most problems will be boring. You have to don the creative cap and make it an interesting one for your audience. Its your creativity that will make even the boring thing look interesting. Most of the times you will find the clients coming up with some vague ideas and not just that they want that you come up with some spectacular thing within a budget that is too small, then it is a challenge for you to accept it and come up with some amazing idea, which will impress the client as well. You can take some ideas from others as well.

Concept Building Process of Design

Category : Concept

The concept building process we’ll focus on in these post, has several components that can be used either together or pulled apart and used individually. The strategy begins first, by establishing foundation concepts through identifying the core values of a project. Then, we’ll create a content explosion through the free association process, identifying related content on an exponential scale. Next, we’ll assemble note-sketched descriptives, setting the stage for all possibilities.

What are core values?

As the name implies, core values are those important feelings or beliefs that a consumer may relate to a product or service.
Core values can be challenging to determine, but by crafting stories that involve the product, we can often unearth them and gain a better
understanding of how the product can impact or influence a person’s life. We can then develop those stories as a means to communicate those
values to consumers.

The key is reaching the consumer by connecting with their needs or touching their emotions. For example, if we think about the product antiperspirant. We can assume the average consumer probably doesn’t care how it stops perspiration, but they need to believe they’ll feel confident in that important meeting they’re going to later that day. Even that fragment of a story quickly tells us that trusting and believing, and feeling confident are important core values related to antiperspirant.chili3

The design process

Category : Uncategorized

Every design process is unique, and this generic step-by-step guide to the design process is indicative only. The number of steps varies depending on the complexity of the project and whether you’re building a new home, renovating or simply making a few small home improvements.

For an overview of the entire process of building or renovating a home, read this article in conjunction with Preliminary research and The construction process.

Your Home is immediately relevant to anyone designing and building a new home, and it can guide renovations and additions (see Planning home improvements; Renovations and additions; Repairs and maintenance).

If a plan house is your preference, Buying a home off the plan shows which design features to look for. You can usually customise your design to some extent.

If you’re buying an apartment, Buying and renovating an apartment indicates the features to look for and how to renovate or make small improvements.

Step 1: Preliminary research

This first step is explained in detail in Preliminary research, which covers:

  • examining your current home and lifestyle
  • developing your design brief
  • deciding your baseline budget
  • exploring sources of professional advice for each stage of decision
  • familiarising yourself with the advice in this guide to inform your brief.

7 basics to create a good design brief

Category : Concept

Here are the essential elements of a good design brief:

1. OBJECTIVES AND GOALS

The first thing you need to find out is what your client wants from their new design. Is this a redesign or reworking of an existing site, or is it a completely new design? Do they already have solid ideas for what they want their site to do or are their ideas more vague?
Getting your clients to nail down what their site goals are is important in creating a design that they’ll be satisfied with. After all, you’ll approach a design that’s meant to raise awareness differently from one that’s meant to specifically sell a product or service.

2. BUDGET AND SCHEDULE

Budget can be a touchy subject for some clients. A lot of clients feel like if they share their budget with you before you give them a quote, you’ll overcharge them or charge them the maximum amount for the least amount of work.

What clients don’t often understand is that by knowing ahead of time what kind of budget they have to work with, you can tailor your services to give them the most benefit for their money. This is the part you need to stress to your clients, and be prepared to meet some resistance.

Schedule is almost as important as budget. Some clients have no idea how long it takes to design a great website. They don’t understand that good design takes time, and that it’s not just a matter of creating a pretty picture.

Sometimes clients have certain deadlines that they want to meet, because of events happening with their company or industry. They might have an upcoming product launch or trade show and want their new site ready for it. It’s important to find out why they want things to fit within a certain schedule and whether that schedule is flexible or not.

Be realistic with your clients about both their budget and schedule needs. If you know you can’t do something within a certain budget or schedule, tell them up front. Offer alternative solutions, if possible. You may find that by working with them and within the restrictions they have, you form a better working relationship and plenty of repeat and referral business.

3. TARGET AUDIENCE

Who are your clients trying to reach? A website designed for teenagers is going to look and work a bit differently than one designed for corporate decision-makers. Ask your client who they want to appeal to with their website right from the beginning.

If your clients aren’t sure who they want to reach with their site, ask them who their ideal customer is. I’m sure they have an idea of who buys their products or uses their services.

Ask them to describe those people, even if there’s more than one. If so, it’s your job as the designer to create something that appeals to more than one demographic.

4. PROJECT SCOPE

Not every project is as in-depth as every other. Some clients want a completely custom solution. Others just want you to adapt an existing template or other design. Some clients want an entire ecommerce site with a shopping cart, while others just want a brochure site that gives basic company information.

Sometimes, project scope is obvious from the goals of a project; if your client’s goals are to sell products through their website, then they’ll need an ecommerce solution. But if it’s not obvious, you’ll need to ask. Make sure you ask about things like blog integration or social networking features, too.

5. AVAILABLE MATERIALS

Does your client already have a logo, brochure, product photos, or other materials that would be useful to your design?

Looking at their existing promotional materials can shed valuable insight into what their design taste is and what their priorities are.

If your client doesn’t have things like a logo or product photos, then you’ll likely want to either offer to design these things, or refer your client to someone who can (if that’s not in your normal scope of services).

These kinds of add-ons can be valuable to both your client and to your bottom line.

6. OVERALL STYLE

Getting a sense of what your client wants in terms of style is vital. They may have a grunge design in mind when you’re picturing something clean and modern (or vice versa). Most clients have very distinct likes and dislikes. But they’re not always good at expressing what their tastes are.

Asking clients for examples of designs they like and designs they don’t like, even if they’re the designs of their competitors, can give you valuable insight into what they like and don’t like. Your clients should provide you with a handful of examples prior to starting the design phase.

7. DEFINITE “DO NOTS”

At least as telling as what a client likes and wants is what they definitely do not want.

Some clients hate certain features. Some clients don’t want an ecommerce site, or a three-column layout, or a slideshow. Getting an idea of what your client doesn’t want can save you from wasting time designing features your clients will then reject.

Goal Setting

Category : Leadership

1. Decide what you want. Your first step is to determine what it is you want to achieve. This can be a big change or small one, but taking some time to think about what you hope to achieve is an important first step to success.

2. Ask why. It’s important to take a little time to think about why you are setting the goals you’ve chosen. If you think about your motivations, you may find that you end up wanting to revise your goals
3. Brainstorm in writing. Once you’ve set a general goal, you need to start getting more specific and making a plan to reach it. A great first step is to do some free-writing. Get some paper and write down some thoughts about the following topics:

  • Your ideal future
  • Qualities you admire in others
  • Things that could be done better
  • Things you want to learn more about
  • Habits you want to improve.
  • This step is meant to help you fantasize and imagine many possibilities. After a few of these possibilities are out on paper, you can determine which ones are most important to you.

4. Get specific. Once you’ve thought about some goals and brainstormed a bit, its time to start getting more specific. Use your notes from the brainstorming session and your definitions from the previous section. Write down some specific things you would like to achieve or do.

  • A vague goal like, “I want to play better, so I will do my best,” is not as effective as a goal like “I want to be able to play my favorite song in six months.” Poorly defined end goals or vague “do-you-best” goals are not as effective as specific goals.
  • Move beyond general goals like “I want to become rich” and focus on specific achievements that will get results. Instead of “I want to become rich,” your goal could be “I want to master investing in the stock market.” Instead of “I want to play the guitar,” your goal could be something like “I want to play lead guitar in a rock band.”
  • It’s a good idea to do some more writing here, trying to describe your goals in as much detail as possible.

5.The Problem with How We Usually Set Goals. If you’re anything like the typical human, then you have dreams and goals in your life. In fact, there are probably many things — large and small — that you would like to accomplish.
That’s great, but there is one common mistake we often make when it comes to setting goals. (I know I’ve committed this error many times myself.)
The problem is this: we set a deadline, but not a schedule.

6.Make it happen! How do you do that? How do you really make personal accountability work for you? Wouldn’t it be easy if there were just some switch you could flip? An Easy Button you could push? Maybe an app you could use? Well, there really is a flipping magical switch-app-button. It’s called making a choice and acting on it. You have the choice to fulfill your aspirations or wallow in the blame game and victim cycle. True success doesn’t come from the outside but from within. There is no wizard. Taking greater personal accountability is the key to succeeding in everything you do.

How to Install Theme in WordPress

Category : Programming

Access install theme functionality in your WP admin

The first thing you need to do when you want to install a new WordPress theme is to login to your site admin page. Once there, go to Appearance -> Themes.themes1

Here, you will see all the themes you have currently installed in your application. To add another one, simply click on the Install Themes tab.themes2

On this page there are two ways to add a new theme. You can either use the search field which will return results from the WordPress.org theme directory or you can upload a theme from your local hard drive. In this tutorial we will show you how to add themes in both ways.

Choose and Install a theme from the official WordPress theme directory

The easiest way to install themes to your WordPress site is if they are listed in the official themes directory. This allows you to search for the theme you need directly from your site admin page. Each theme in the official directory has to have Tags that describe its functionality allowing you to easily search for the right theme.

If you know the theme’s name, you can simply search for it.themes3

You will now see all themes that meet your search. Hover over any of them and you will see two options – to see a demo of the theme or to install it. Once you choose which theme you want to use for your site, press the blue Install button.themes4

Your WordPress application will download and install the theme for you. Simply click the Acticate link on the next page you will be redirected to.themes5

That’s all – you can go to the front page of your site to see its new looks.
